A Bit Crazy Here

The past few days have been so crazy, I can't even believe I"m taking the time to blog!  But it's good to relax for a moment, so here's my catch up.

Friday was Jeyson's 30th birthday!  We had a fun birthday picnic lunch in the park with about 25 people (including kids) since it happened to be a vacation day in Brazil.  I am posting some pictures on our other blog of that.  Then, we headed over to Jeyson's parents' house Fri-Sat.  We celebrated Jeyson's birthday again and had fun taking some family pictures.

Jeyson made this wagon (every last detail of it!) from spare parts and scraps of metal/wood.  Elijah LOVES riding in it around Jeyson's parents' farm.

Then, Sunday after church our house exploded....not literally, but it looks like it!!  We have to pack up everything won't leave out for our house-sitters (clear out drawers, personal stuff, etc) as well as deep clean and organize everything.  We are packing everything into boxes and putting them it into a storage area above our house, but it's very dusty and rough up there, so things actually have to be PACKED in boxes and sealed.

There is so much purging and sorting to do.  Elijah's things are especially confusing as I have to separate things we'll need for him when we return and things that we won't need again but will want to keep, and things that we can give away of his.

There are also TONS of things to return to people and things to request back that we've lent out.  The kitchen needs to be left clean, which is hard to do while we're still living here and needing to eat.

Meanwhile, Jeyson is teaching a mechanics class to some of the new missionaries and finishing up maintenance on a plane and now has to take the plane out on a two hour flight to break in the engine.

I am also working on a huge study guide for the upcoming birth instructor course I"m going to take.  It's about 20 pages FULL of questions that need to be researched and answered and since the course is basically just after we arrive, I have to work on it now.

And just when you thought it couldn't get crazier...Elijah got super sick yesterday!  The day started off normally but he was rather fussy.  At lunch he ate a TON of food!  Then, when he woke up from his nap he threw up a huge amount.  He continued to throw up a bunch of times over the next hours.  At first I thought he just over did it in the food department, but he had absolutely no interest in drinking either.  When he still didn't drink anything by the evening, we called his doctor who said to give him pidilite type stuff.  We bought it and gave it to him, but then he threw that up too.

By then it was around 7:30 and Elijah was all week, sad, and dehydrated.  We took him to the urgent care here (which is connected with a hopital...literally).  The doctor was super nice and helpful and said we should get him on an iv.  So we went over to the hospital wing and Elijah got hooked up.  He was so weak he didn't fight it at all and just slept in our arms.  The hospital was rough!  Super third worldish :)  Elijah was in the infirmary, 4 beds in one room with no curtain even!  But there was only one other person there who just had a serious headache so it wasn't a big deal. Thankfully there was almost no one else in the rest of the hospital, but the staff pretty much ignored us!  At one point Jeyson went out to get us something to eat and Elijah's iv started to back up with blood!  There is no call for help button and he wasnt in a crib (just a bed that he could roll out of ), so I had to unhook the iv from the stand, and carry it and Elijah to get a nurse who was watching tv in the waiting room!

In the end, we all survived.  After about 3 hours, the meds all kicked in at once.  Within 20 minutes Elijah went from pale and weak to yanking out his iv (which he accomplished!).  He was all happy and smiley and wanted to play with the tube.  We went home and he's been doing great this morning.  He's nursing a lot extra and we've kept food to just applesauce for now.

Anyway...with all of that said, time to pack some more stuff!!!

  1. OMG Stephanie- That's awful!! I can't even imagine how scary all of that must have been. I'm telling you- when they get to that "everything goes into the mouth" stage, it's impossible to keep away all those terrible germs. And whatever he got was horrible! Ugh! Poor Elijah. That must have been rough, little guy! SO glad he's on the mend so quickly and back to his lively iv-pulling-out-self. Can't wait to meet the little man!! Hope you and Jeyson stay healthy!!
